UCU and the University have been negotiating for some considerable time on revising and improving the way that hourly paid staff are remunerated. We have arrived at a negotiated position which although it does not meet every single one of the aspirations you may have does we think represent an improvement for the very great majority of hourly paid staff.
In essence it is proposed that all hourly-paid staff working the equivalent of 0.2 of a full time equivalent will be transferred over onto a fractional appointment from next academic year. In addition changes are proposed to the contracts of those who remain employed on an hourly paid basis in order to ensure that pay is consistent with that paid to full time staff whose terms relating to pay were assimilated onto the pay framework in 2006.
