Motion on the continuance of our dispute with the university
Motion to the general meeting 25 October 2017
This local association of the UCU notes:
- That the university proposed changes to statutes currently rests with the Privy Council
- That whilst we remain in dispute with the university over this issue our T&Cs of service remain those which apply under the old statute.
- That the Privy Council are subject to political pressure and that our dispute has already caused other universities to have second thoughts about changes in statute (e.g. Warwick and UCL)
- That this local association voted at the EGM on 14 September to reballot members for further industrial action including industrial action if the university remains intransigent and that additional forms of industrial action as suggested by members could be included in the ballot, e.g. assessment boycott, REF boycott
- That this local association voted at the EGM on 14 September to request that UCU formally implements the call for the international censure then academic boycott of the University of Leeds
- The strong support from the UCU Higher Education Committee working closely with us in this dispute.
This LA resolves
- To include in the reballot for action:
- A boycott of examination marking
- A boycott of REF
- A boycott of TEF
- Strike action beginning with a further 3 day strike
- To step up our work to contract and provide advice on work to contract activities such as not helping with weekend open days
- To progress the censure then boycott of Leeds University.
