Who should be on next year’s UCU committee? + AGM details
We’d like to invite all UCU University of Leeds branch members to attend the Annual General Meeting of the UCU University of Leeds branch, and to ask you to consider being on the UCU branch committee for the coming academic year or nominating a colleague (with their agreement!).
The AGM will be 3.45pm to 5pm on Thursday 16 May (meet 3.30pm for tea and cake), in the Workshop Theatre.
Elections
UCU members elect a branch committee each year to shape, lead and facilitate the branch’s member-led campaigns and activities.
It really matters that the committee reflects the membership. Organisations that involve an element of self-nomination can end up with white men over-represented – please take this into consideration when deciding who to nominate. If you’re interested and would like to know more, please get in touch with me or one of the current committee members. You don’t have to have experience of being a UCU rep to be on the committee.
Nominations are now open for all the elected committee roles for the 2019-2020 academic year:
- President
- Vice-president
- Treasurer
- Honorary secretary
- Membership officer
- Equality officer
- Campaigns officer
- Health and safety officer
- Anti-casualisation officer
- Ordinary committee member (14 spaces).
Some ordinary committee members are likely to be asked to take a lead on particular issues. These roles are not elected separately and will be decided by the committee next year. If you want to take the lead on one of the following issues it might be helpful if that was written on your nomination
- Ordinary committee member (Postgraduate rep)
- Ordinary committee member (Migrant members rep)
- Ordinary committee member (Migrant postgraduate members rep)
- Ordinary committee member (women members rep)
- Ordinary committee member (black members rep)
- Ordinary committee member (disabled members rep)
- Ordinary committee member (LGBT+ members rep)
- Ordinary committee member (pensions rep)
- Ordinary committee member (Environment rep)
Nominations for all committee positions must be received by the branch administrator by 3.45pm Wednesday 15 May (24 hours before the AGM).
A member needs two nominations from members to be eligible to stand for the committee. Nominations can be made by email, or if you wish you can use this branch committee nomination form.
Agenda items and motions
You can submit motions for debate or an agenda item for discussion at the annual general meeting. Please send them to the branch administrator before 12pm on Tuesday 30 April.
We will send out the agenda for the AGM, including the text of any motions, a fortnight before the meeting.
Sending nominations or motions to the branch administrator
For committee nominations and motions only: email the branch administrator/organiser Alan Smith at a.j.u.smith@leeds.ac.uk. Alternatively you can post nominations or motions to UCU, 7.51 EC Stoner Building.
For other purposes don’t email Alan directly, email ucu@leeds.ac.uk instead so branch officers can pick up the emails when Alan is not in the office.
