Motion to amend Congress 2024 motion on representation of Four Fights in national UCEA heads of claim
The following motion of amendment was carried at the branch general meeting 29 April 2024 so is agreed collective policy. The text here is subject to approval of the minutes of that meeting and the approved minutes will be the correct version. The motion is to propose an amendment to a motion from another branch that is on the agenda for UCU Congress 2024.
Branch notes:
- The 2024-25 Higher Education heads of claim, where “progression and resolution of those issues covered by the terms of reference including … contract types” is the only mention of the issue of casualisation. Similarly pay gaps are the only direct reference to equalities issues.
- That these terms of reference were rejected by UCU members. In particular because they do not accurately represent the breadth and scope of issues contained within the Four Fights campaign.
- The 2022 heads of claim, which in contrast presented a detailed and complete set of issues.
Branch believes:
- That the Four Fights campaign remains important.
- That to win improvements for members the Four Fights must be better represented in the national heads of claim.
Branch supports the following amendment to congress motion HE2:
Add to ‘Conference Notes: (adds 21 words)
3. The published heads of claim appear to accept UCEA terminology on the Four Fights, which was rejected by UCU members. “’
Add to ‘Conference resolves’: (adds 24 words)
‘iii. To instruct HEC, GS, and HE negotiators to include substantive demands on all Four Fights, modeled on 2022-23 demands, in all HE claims.’
