Policy decision: Increasing and assessing our membership and bargaining power
This motion was agreed by the branch at an emergency general meeting 17 March 2022
This branch notes that
- currently we have no clear way of knowing how many members strike each day in each faculty or service
- this information would allow us to assess our strengths and weaknesses and better strategise around our bargaining power
- this information will help focus our efforts to bring more colleagues into the union and out on strike
- our sister union, Unison, have asked their members to email the branch to say they’re striking even if they don’t turn up to the picket
The branch resolves
- to create a weekly survey of members during strike weeks to report their faculty or service and number of days of strike
- that this information will be kept anonymous and used only for the purpose of internal assessment of strategies and future action by the branch
